The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) updated its recommendations on Prevention and Control of Influenza, reiterating the need for the vaccination of healthcare workers. Beginning in October, the ACIP recommends that healthcare employers

offer vaccinations to all workers, including night and weekend staff

educate workers on the benefits of vaccination and the potential health consequences of influenza

provide convenient access to influenza vaccine at the work site free of charge as part of employee health programs

The recommendations, which the ACIP issued July 28, also address vaccination of children aged 24-59 months, expanding vaccination outreach programs, contingency plans if the supply of vaccine is delayed and/or reduced, and offering influenza vaccine to patients throughout the influenza season.
