The attorney general in Louisiana issued warrants and obtained arrests for three clinicians who allegedly killed four patients at Memorial Medical Center in New Orleans as the hospital struggled to survive after Hurricane Katrina.

A doctor and two nurses were charged with second-degree murder and released without bail on July 18. They allegedly injected the patients with lethal doses of morphine and the sedative midazolam, according to a statement by Attorney General Charles Foti Jr. The patients were in a long-term care unit operated by Lifecare Hospitals on the seventh floor of Memorial Medical.

None of the victims received the medications for routine care, Foti says.
