Lawmakers and a federal agency have made the following moves of late related to emergency preparedness:

  • The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced yesterday that it has joined with healthcare providers to form the Kidney Community Emergency Response Coalition. The group will develop a nationwide disaster response plan to help ensure the medical needs of patients with kidney disease during a regional or national emergency.
  • Last week, a U.S. Senate committee approved a bill to improve public health and hospital responses during disasters. The Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act was filed by Senator Richard Burr (R-NC). The Senate will continue to review the bill, which you can read by clicking here and searching for bill number S3678.
