Catherine Lake, the daughter of a woman who was injured in a surgical fire, has created a Web site dedicated to surgical fire education and has become a vocal activist for preventing surgical fires, according to an article in The Washington Post.
There are approximately 100 surgical fires each year, according to the Web site, which educates patients on the causes of surgical fires. In addition, patients can learn steps they can take to protect themselves from surgical fires and medical errors when undergoing surgery.
