It was quite the week for hospitals facing unexpected circumstances, as the following incidents show:

  • On Tuesday, a break in a nearby water main forced Boston Medical Center to temporarily stop accepting new patients in its emergency room, relocate about 30 ER patients to other sections of the building, and pump out its basement, according to CBS-4 News.
  • A steam boiler exploded last Saturday at St. Mary's Hospital in Passaic, NJ, which led to the facility evacuating all of its 50 patients and closing the facility, the Herald News reported. There were no injuries in the blast, which authorities blamed on excessive pressure in the boiler. The facility was scheduled to reopen this week.
  • Cherry County Hospital in Valentine, NE, was evacuated on Sunday because of a large fire that burned hundreds of acres in the city, according to the North Platte Telegraph.
