ED supply room checklist
How often do you update your supply room checklist? Here's a sample policy found in Infection Control Manual for Hospitals, 2nd Edition (HCPro, 2006).
All sterile supplies should be checked daily and before use for:
Ö Appropriate color change of outside tape
Ö Expiration date
Ö Wet, discolored packs or packages with broken seals
Ö Turbidity in solutions; cracked glass
Ö Appropriate color change or chemical indicator once package is opened.
Note: Any item that is expired or falls in any category above should be returned to the hospital's central services department.
Crash carts should be checked daily for expiration dates in sterile items. Expired items should be returned as noted above.
