OSHA and the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) agreed to extend their alliance for promoting workplace health and safety for two years. The alliance will focus on ergonomic hazards and musculoskeletal disorders, motor vehicle safety, safety issues affecting non-English speakers and youth employees, and support for the annual North American Occupational Safety and Health Week.
The announcement came during the ASSE annual meeting in Seattle on June 12.
Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA Edwin G. Foulke Jr. spoke at the meeting and identified pandemic flu preparedness as one of the big issues on OSHA's agenda. In his address, Foulke said to expect an update soon to the March 2004 avian flu guidance document.
