A newborn was safely rescued earlier this month after a woman allegedly kidnapped him from his own home. The incident occurred in Lubbock, TX, after the suspect allegedly posed as a nurse at University Medical Center and befriended the new mother.

The suspect went as far as to dress in medical scrubs and help with the baby while the mother and newborn were in the medical center, the Associated Press reported. The suspect learned of the mother's address and on June 4, came to the home and took the child while the mother was momentarily distracted by her son, according to the Associated Press.

Police received a tip about the missing child and found the infant in a car seat left near a condominium.

Staff at the medical center allegedly never asked why the imposter wore different colored scrubs and had no identification badge, police told the Associated Press. Clinicians from other facilities sometimes visit the hospital and wear different scrubs, which may have helped the suspect blend in.
