The Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) will focus on the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations' (JCAHO) universal protocol during its annual National Time Out Day (NTOD) June 21, 2006. The protocol advises the surgical team to take a time out to verify correct patient, correct site, and correct procedure prior to surgery.

On its Web site, the AORN offers an educational poster promoting NTOD, as well as material from its 2004 Correct Site Surgery Tool Kit.
