There is less than one year left for nursing homes to get their National Provider Identifier (NPI). CMS will require the 10-digit number on electronic claims sent on and after May 23, 2007.
CMS is urging healthcare organizations to apply for their NPI now and not risk disruption to their cash flow. The identifier helps to ensure that medical claims are processed on time and payments are made correctly. Learn more about NPI and how to apply by visiting www.cms.hhs.gov/NationalProvIdentStand/ on the CMS Web site.
