A surveyor and consultants for the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) offered these safety tidbits at the JCAHO's "Accreditation Essentials" seminar earlier this month in Chicago:
- Include risks from local industries in your hazard vulnerability analysis
- Hand hygiene will continue to be a big focus during surveys this year
- The electronic versions of the Statement of Conditions' Parts 2 and 4, which go into effect on January 1, will become a new accreditation participation requirement for facilities
- Housekeeping staff should regularly check the expiration dates for hand gels and hand foams stored in dispensers
