Injuries related to obesity account for 39.3 million lost workdays a year. The cost to U.S. employers averages $7 a month for each female employee and $4.59 a month for each male worker, according to the March Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
Healthcare workers topped the list of obesity injury expenditures by occupation. Finance and consulting employees had the lowest costs.
Gordian Health Solutions, Inc., Franklin, TN, conducted the research by examining injury records for 61 employers in several states between 2000 and 2004. Click here for more results from the study.
