"Good Jobs, Safe Jobs" is the message for "Workers Memorial Day," designated by the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) for April 28.
"Each year more than 56,000 workers die from job injuries and illnesses and another six million are injured," states the federation's "Workers Memorial Day" Web page.
The AFL-CIO assigns April 28 for the observance because on that date in 1970, Congress passed the Occupational Safety and Health Act, the legislation that created OSHA.
