Protecting Illinois nursing home workers from safety and health hazards is the focus of a new alliance announced by OSHA on March 16. Partnering with OSHA in the alliance are the state of Illinois On-Site Safety and Health Consultation Service, the Life Services Network, and the Life Services Network Trust.

The alliance will develop education programs to reduce and prevent exposure to common health and safety hazards in nursing homes, such as electrical dangers, ergonomic-related injuries, and bloodborne pathogens. Employers will also have access to mentoring and on-site consultation services to identify and find solutions to these hazards.

Nursing and personal care facilities topped all healthcare businesses in citations and fines last year, according to OSHA inspection data.
