The American Dental Association (ADA) updated its tuberculosis Web page to reflect the CDC guidelines for preventing TB in healthcare settings released in December.

"Most dental practices don't see patients with active TB, so there is little change from previous TB guidelines," observed the ADA. The chief exception is the CDC's requirement that all healthcare settings conduct an annual risk assessment.

Treating patients with latent TB, training staff, and requiring skin tests based on risk classification are other topics addressed on the Web page.
