The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) has developed a patient education tool to answer patients' frequently asked questions about anesthesia. The tool includes 30 questions that deal with patient concerns regarding

  • intubation
  • spinal anesthesia
  • eating/drinking restrictions before surgery
  • transesophageal echocardiography
The ASA also provides a checklist on its Web site that uses the mnemonic "Anesthesia & Me" to help patients organize information about their medical history that they should know when going into surgery.
