One patient died after contracting Legionella--and two more were infected with the bacteria--at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.

In response, the hospital took patient precautions and flushed chlorine through its water pipes. Subsequent tests showed that the bacteria was gone, according to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.

The deceased patient was already seriously ill, though hospital officials believe Legionella contributed to the death, the Democrat and Chronicle reported.

Upcoming issues of Briefings on Infection Control will look into Legionella concerns in hospitals.
