One of the many challenges of running an organization is punctually completing all of the activities needed to maintain accreditation while continually protecting patient safety. One effective way to do this is by creating and using tracking checklists.

You checklists should include drills, meetings, and inspections that allow you to track activities on a monthly basis. For daily activities (e.g., checking critical equipment, crash cart seals, and proper functioning of your alternate power source), create a checklist or monthly calendar that gives your staff the option to check each day the activity is completed. For weekly activities (e.g., spore-culture testing and disinfection of your washing machine), create a form that your staff can check once a week.
