The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has placed the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act of 2005 in the Federal Register and is seeking feedback on how to implement the law.
The Act intends to help healthcare providers improve patient safety and encourages providers to contract with patient safety organizations (PSOs) to collect and analyze data on patient safety events, including "near misses" and "no harm" events.
The AHRQ seeks input on applying the Act to various organizational configurations and meeting the statute's confidentiality goals, according to the Federal Register entry. Public comments can be made-either in person or via telephone-during public meetings March 8, 13, and 16 at various locations in Washington, D.C.
The March 8 meeting will focus on provider-PSO relationships, contracts, and disclosures. The March 13 meeting is about operation of a component PSO (a PSO that is part of another organization), and the March 16 meeting will focus on security and confidentiality issues.
