Two associations that represent healthcare workers have voiced opposition to the mandatory influenza vaccination proposal by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), reports Inside OSHA on January 23.

Requiring an influenza declination statement from employees who refuse the vaccination is one objection from the Association of Occupational Health Professionals in Healthcare and the Service Employees International Union. Spokespersons from both organizations say the JCAHO proposal should focus more on worker education and counseling on the benefits of vaccination than on documenting vaccination refusal.

As reported in the January 24 issue of Medical Environment Weekly, the JCAHO is conducting a field review of the proposal and accepting comments until February 12.
