The JCAHO explores mandatory flu shots

The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) is in the midst of a field review to weigh the possibility of requiring mandatory flu vaccinations for healthcare workers.

The proposal would fall under the infection control standards. To read the proposed requirements and offer your thoughts, click here. Comments are due by February 9.

On a related note, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned healthcare facilities over the weekend about not using two flu antiviral medications. Amantadine and rimantadine have proven ineffective in blocking infections by the predominant flu strain this season, according to the agency.
