A New Jersey tissue broker is under an increasingly hot spotlight over whether it sold stolen-and potentially infectious-human skin and bones.

Authorities in Brooklyn, NY, and Newark, NJ, are reportedly investigating Biomedical Tissue Services of Fort Lee, NJ, for selling body parts allegedly stolen from funeral homes, the Associated Press reported. Some of these samples may have ended up in hospitals through third party sales without proper disease screenings.

The Food and Drug Administration warned the public about the screening problems back in October, but they only recently gained national attention as word spread that hospitals had warned patients who may have received the samples during procedures.
