It has been a lousy four weeks for nursing homes when it comes to fires. The following two minor long-term care blazes occurred since 2006 started:

  • January 7-Food in a microwave caught fire at Elizabeth Place in Charlotte, NC, forcing authorities to evacuate eight residents, The Charlotte Observer reported
  • January 3-A fire occurred in a closet containing chemicals at Lincoln Park (NJ) Care Center, though staff were able to relocate residents to safe areas within the building, according to the Lincoln Park Police Department

These incidents followed a pair of other fires at nursing homes in December. If you'd like more information on long-term care evacuation techniques, check out HCPro's award-winning video on the topic.
