The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has published "Guidelines for Preventing the Transmission of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in Health-Care Settings" in the December 30 Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, meeting its schedule for having new recommendations in 2005. The guidelines first appeared in draft form in the December 2004 Federal Register.

In addition to replacing the 1994 hospital-based facility TB prevention document, the guidelines apply to outpatient settings, e.g., medical offices, dental offices, and ambulatory care facilities, and non-traditional locations, such as correctional facilities, home-based healthcare agencies, and long-term-care settings.
