The debate about the risks and effects of obesity surgery continues despite significant progress in surgical techniques, according to a story from the Associated Press (AP).

The story discusses the different surgical methods used by doctors worldwide and the short- and long-term affect of the procedures.

Obesity is a worldwide problem, with about 31 percent of adult Americans (equaling about 61 million people) considered obese, according to the AP.
