EPA problems come in smaller packages

Smaller hospitals have a greater risk of running afoul of  the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) than their larger counterparts.

So says Don Grant, an oil spill coordinator with the EPA's Region I office in Boston. A hospital's environmental performance "really sorts out by size," says Grant.

Smaller hospitals are more likely to be out of compliance than larger ones that have more staff. An estimated 30% to 50% of smaller hospitals aren't in full compliance with the EPA, he says.
