Bird Flu Self-Protection for Civilians and the Military
In anticipation of a possible flu pandemic, the The Center for Technology and National Security Policy (CTNSP) has published Bird Flu & You: A Quick Guide to Protecting Yourself and Your Family from Bird (Pandemic) Flu as part of an effort to help civilians as well as members of the military learn more about the implications of the bird flu. An informal avian flu working group, which includes representatives of the responsible military and civilian organizations, is completing a paper on the subject.
An infection control handout can be requested as can a 22" x 32" full=color Bird Flu & You poster, which advises citizens on non-medical actions they can take to help prevent the spread of the virus.
To request a copy of the poster and the handout you may send an email to lifesciences@ndu.edu. To view the poster, click here, and to see the handout, click here.
CTNSP was created in June 2001 under the auspices of Vice Admiral Paul Gaffney, President of the National Defense University. Among other efforts, CTNSP is involved in border security, military transformation, and the acquisition of commercial information technology for the services. CTSP says it has undertaken also a comprehensive review of the nation's defense laboratories.
Note: According to CTNS, the guide does not necessarily represent the views of the National Defense University or of the Department of Defense. This guide is not intended to substitute for information from law enforcement officials or medical professionals. In the event of an emergency, you should contact the appropriate agencies.
