Diabetes awareness month includes workplace issues

November is National Diabetes Awareness Month, a time to focus attention on a disease that afflicts an estimated 20.8 million persons in the United States, according to the CDC. A significant percentage of people with diabetes are workers, and Diabetesatwork.org is an online resource specifically designed to help employers address the management of diabetes in the workplace. The organization provides planning guides for large and small employers, assessment tools, fact sheets, and workshop ideas. The Web site is the result of collaboration by the Washington Business Group on Health and the National Diabetes Education Program.
