The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) expects a significant increase in production of influenza vaccine doses for the 2005-2006 flu season, even though Chiron, a manufacturing company, recently lowered its projections, according to an October 17 FDA announcement. Pharmaceutical companies Sanofi Pasteur, MedImmune Vaccines, Inc., and GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals are also distributing vaccines this year.

Influenza season may begin as early as October and runs through May. The best time to get vaccinated is in October or November, but getting your shot in December or later still can be beneficial.
