The JCAHO notes two evacuation techniques

Blanket drags and bed relocations are two issues to think about in your evacuation plans, according to what a spokesperson for the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) told The Capital Times in Madison, WI, this week.

The newspaper examined local hospital disaster plans, and the JCAHO indicated that the following actions are good components to test during emergency drills:

  • How well can staff move a patient bed down a corridor, into a stairwell, and down the stairs?
  • Do staff know how to perform a blanket drag to evacuate a patient down a corridor?
