Healthcare professionals among those needed for hurricane relief efforts

Wanted: Healthcare professionals and relief personnel, including environmental health workers, facility managers, and safety and security officers, to assist with Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has set up a Web site and toll-free number (866/KAT-MEDI) for personnel to volunteer. To access the Web site, click here.
HHS advises that volunteers must be healthy enough to function under certain field conditions, including the following:
- Working 12-hour shifts
- Living in tents
- Working with no air conditioning
- Undergoing long periods of standing
- Using a bedroll for sleeping
- Eating military ready-to-eat meals
