Bomb threat forces partial evacuation of Chicago hospital

Emergency Management Alert, August 2, 2005

A suspicious package forced the afternoon evacuation of an emergency room and one wing of a Chicago hospital last week, reports the Associated Press.

Health officials at Provident Hospital on the South Side eventually ditched the evacuation plan at approximately 5 p.m., but not before it disrupted much of the afternoon operation of the facility.

Police closed off several streets near the hospital while bomb technicians addressed what turned out to be a harmless package.

It is unclear where hospital workers found the package, or why it was believed to be dangerous.
