IN hospital resumes work after helicopter crash

Emergency Management Alert, August 2, 2005

Porter Valparaiso (IN) Hospital Campus maintained normal working operations after a University of Chicago Hospital helicopter crashed on its roof while transferring a patient, according to the Northwest Indiana Times.

The four passengers in the helicopter, a pilot, doctor, nurse, and intensive care patient, were unscathed in the crash, though hospital personnel and emergency workers had to free the patient from the wreckage. A security person on the roof at the time of the crash was also uninjured.

The crash caused no serious damage to the hospital, but 20 emergency personnel had to secure the helicopter with ropes as it veered toward the side of the roof.

Hospital officials dealt with a barrage of questions from visitors and patients regarding the accident, but there were no other interruptions to their normal routine.
