Gun in emergency room forces hospital lockdown

Emergency Management Alert, July 26, 2005

Security officials at a Florida hospital placed the facility in lockdown early Saturday morning after workers found a gun in the hospital's emergency room, reports Local6.com.

But police say the man, to whom the gun belonged, did not intend to hurt anyone at Winter Park Hospital.

He was involved in a fight near the hospital, pulled out the gun to defend a friend, and accidentally shot himself, police say.

Police found a second gun in a parked car outside the hospital.

Police made no arrests.
