California hospitals the next al-Qaida target?

Emergency Management Alert, July 26, 2005

A U.S. government source has alerted the California Department of Homeland Security about the possibility of a terrorist attack at hospitals in either Los Angeles or San Diego in September or October, reports TheKCRAChannel.com.

The targets, according to a memo sent from the source, include a nuclear power plant, a military or civilian airport, and a large hospital.

Security officials in California said they could not verify the information. According to the state Department of Homeland Security, hospitals are only required to stay on alert and wait for further information.
