Here's a new phrase that you'll hear a lot about soon from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO): "eBBI/Part 4."
The term refers to the Statement of Conditions' basic building information (or BBI, which is in Part 2 of the document) and the plan for improvement (Part 4).
On August 16, the JCAHO plans to debut electronic or "e" versions of Parts 2 and 4, which will be known collectively as "eBBI/Part 4," said George Mills, associate director of standards for the JCAHO. Mills spoke during a Joint Commission Resources audioconference last Friday.
Mills hopes facilities will explore using eBBI/Part 4 this year, though this electronic tool will only become mandatory in January 2007. Look for more information about this development in upcoming issues of Healthcare Life Safety Compliance.
