A Massachusetts lawmaker has requested his colleagues file legislation to further protect healthcare workers on the job.

Senator Jarrett Barrios has petitioned the state Senate for legislation to require healthcare employers to develop and carry out programs to prevent workplace violence.

Under the proposal, hospitals and other medical facilities would have to create a written violence-prevention plan that outlines risk factors for workplace violence and what methods the site would take to prevent problems, according to The Sun of Lowell, MA.
