Fake hospital collapse trains emergency personnel in victim recovery
Emergency Management Alert, June 28, 2005
More than 350 emergency and medical personnel sorted through rubble for "victims" at an abandoned San Diego hospital last week after a fake bomb "exploded" during a mock disaster exercise, reports NBCSanDiego.com.
Urban search-and-rescue teams armed with trained canines responded to the simulated hospital collapse.
The Governor's Office of Emergency Services, which sponsored the drill, used special effects to make the drill appear as real as possible.
The drill is reportedly the largest of its kind since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
