Man sentenced for falsely portraying a doctor
Emergency Management Alert, June 21, 2005
An Akron (OH) man is headed to jail for six months after he was found guilty of practicing medicine without a license, reports The Plain Dealer in Cleveland.
On March 20, Scott Mauer walked into the Akron City Hospital emergency room, told several nurses he was a doctor, and asked for a particular patient's room number. Nurses showed him the room, where he looked through medical charts before leaving.
Police arrested him 20 minutes later after he tried to stop ambulances from entering the hospital's parking lot.
The hospital has since stepped up security, locking ambulance bay doors and reviewing safety procedures with employees.
