The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) has opened a field review of two standards that will tackle the issue of volunteer clinicians who respond to a healthcare facility during a disaster.

The proposed human resource (HR) standards are as follows:

  • HR.1.25 would discuss credentialing volunteer practitioners who aren't licensed independent practitioners immediately following a disaster
  • HR.4.35 would discuss privileging of these same volunteers

You can send your thoughts about these proposals to the JCAHO through July 12. To learn more or submit a comment, go here.
