Tests: Letter sent to NM governor did not contain anthrax

Emergency Management Alert, May 24, 2005

Tests revealed that the white powder mailed in a threatening letter to New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson is not anthrax, reports The Associated Press.

The director of mail operations for the governor's office opened the letter last Friday afternoon and found the mysterious white powder, along with an ominous message for the governor. Authorities evacuated the building as a precaution.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Postal Service are investigating the source of the letter.
