Bird flu virus problem worsens in China

Emergency Management Alert, May 31, 2005

Chinese health officials admitted last week that their battle to contain the recent surge of the bird flu virus is not going smoothly, reports the Associated Press.

China originally reported that 178 birds died in the province of Qinghai in early May. Now it is believed that more than 1,000 birds died in the province, which is also a major tourist stop.

Earlier last week, China denied reports that five humans died in Qinghai during the outbreak.
