There were luckily no injuries following a grease fire on May 19 at St. Cloud (MN) Hospital. The blaze caused $10,000 in damages, though, fire officials told the St. Cloud Times.
The fire started in a grill of a dining room as workers were cleaning it. Staff and firefighters temporarily evacuated the area.
Such incidents should remind hospitals to keep up on their fire suppression system inspections for cooking equipment. The June issue of Healthcare Life Safety Compliance will look in detail at the National Fire Protection Association's requirements in this area.
