A scary incident at Bridgeport (CT) Hospital is a good warning for all medical centers to double-check their elevator emergency procedures.
A pediatrician got into an elevator at the hospital at about 3 a.m. on May 13 and was followed by a man who had been waiting nearby. The man hit the emergency stop button and allegedly assaulted the doctor, who eventually fought him off by poking him in the eyes, the Connecticut Post reported.
The pediatrician picked up the emergency phone in the elevator to call for help, but allegedly no one answered it, according to the Post. She released the stop button and hospital staff who were nearby when the elevator opened detained the suspect until hospital security officers arrived. The man had arrived at the hospital earlier for detoxification and somehow walked out of a secure unit, police told the Post.
