The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations has opened up environment of care (EC) standard EC.4.20 for field review. The standard sets requirements for emergency management drills, and if the revisions go through, they will put a sharper edge on what facilities need to accomplish.
The potential revisions have already created more buzz that typical field reviews, says Steven MacArthur, safety consultant with The Greeley Company in Marblehead, MA. However, if you already stay apprised of the emergency management standards, the proposed changes wouldn't be hard to handle, MacArthur says.
The field review is open for comment until June 17. To read the proposed changes and submit your views, click here.
