Fire at Las Vegas hospital forces evacuation
Emergency Management Alert, May 3, 2005
A fire in the maintenance area at a Las Vegas hospital last Sunday forced officials to evacuate patients from a nearby floor, reports the Las Vegas Sun.
The fire, which occurred on the fifth floor of Valley Hospital, sent a cloud of black smoke into the halls. Fire investigators believe the fire was accidental. Damage is estimated at $190,000.
The fire started in a refrigeration unit, investigators say. Insulation, trash, and liquid from the refrigerator helped produce the smoke. A small explosion occurred when a refrigeration line broke during the blaze.
