Class teaches hospital employees to manage chemical spills

Columbus (NE) Community Hospital sent employees to college last week to learn about dealing with chemical spills, the Columbus Telegram reported.
The three-day class, offered by a local community college, focused on hospital procedures for setting up a command center, keeping sites from becoming contaminated, and how to deal with mass decontamination.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires continuing education classes "mainly for worker and public safety." Environmental trainer Herb Scott told the Telegram.
"OSHA was intended to make sure you go home with the same numbers of fingers and toes you went to work with. This is part of their regulations-hazardous materials," he said.
