Patient sets self on fire in emergency room
Emergency Management Alert, March 22, 2005
A patient at the University Hospital emergency room in San Antonio lit himself on fire last week forcing several patients to evacuate the area, television station WOAI reported.
Witnesses recounted a male patient arguing with hospital security and then lighting his own body on fire. "We just saw smoke and we saw the man light his leg on fire," patient Heather Warden told WOAI.
Firefighters and hospital staff evacuated almost a dozen patients in order to air out the emergency room. Patients sat outside the emergency room for less than an hour.
The male patient who allegedly started the fire is listed in serious condition.
