AZ hospital opens state-of-the-art emergency center
Emergency Management Alert, April 12, 2005
Two years after embarking on an aggressive community campaign to raise funds for a state-of-the-art emergency center, an Arizona hospital is opening the doors on a $10 million facility this week, reports Inside Tucson Business.
Carondelet Health Network's St. Mary's Hospital in Tucson is moving out of its current cramped 9,500 square-foot quarters to a 24,000 square-foot center, ripe with modern-day amenities.
The center has rooms built specially for isolating patients with infectious diseases. It also boasts a decontamination room with access from outside the hospital, and a separate room to treat trauma patients.
Fourteen more treatment rooms will be added during phase two of the construction project this summer. In total, there will be 53 treatment rooms. The center will stretch over 30,000 square feet.
Other additions include the picture archiving communication system (PACS), which allows physicians to access imaging test results on a computer screen. Physicians using PACS will also be able to access test results from home.
The center was funded entirely by 765 Carondelet employees and 3,332 community donors, which included individuals, groups, and businesses.
