Take appropriate steps during a bomb threat

When confronted with a bomb threat at your facility, you should take immediate action to avoid possible loss of life and property or personal injury, and to avert panic. After receiving a threatening phone call, you should first attempt to prolong the conversation with the caller. Next, contact administrator or the on-call administrator. Then, you should contact the following:

During normal business hours:

  • Hospital security department
  • Director of facilities
  • Safety manager
  • Local police department
  • Local fire department

During evenings, weekends, nights, and holidays:

  • Nursing administrative coordinator
  • General maintenance employee/boiler watch stander
  • Hospital security
  • Environmental services supervisor
  • Local police department
  • Local fire department
